Organizational Change Leadership (E-MBA270)

If you are interested in management and organizational change, this is the course for you. Here the emphasis is on promoting an understanding of and developing critical success factors at the expense of more unfortunate but typical attitudes. The course focuses on management as a process where the participants in the course work actively with a change case. Through three gatherings, each lasting two days, the aim is to grow together through shared learning and challenge.

Content

In this course, the participants will define and present real challenges from work-life for which the participants in the course will create solutions. The students explore relevant theoretical perspectives and investigate possible empirical support regarding the recommendation and the change report they will produce. Lectures will mainly be prepared to develop an understanding of the concept of change, management theories and models that can support change work in organizations and the change case. The participants themselves contribute actively by finding relevant literature and research that can shed light on the change case and proposed solutions.

Required prerequisite knowledge

The course is on master level and is available for students with a bachelor degree or similar education and a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.

Work experience may compensate for lack of educational skills.

The course can be a part of the Executive MBA programme.

The students must prepare an academic report that describes the change case, including solutions and a plan for the implementation of changes. The assignments must be handed in 3 weeks after the last meeting, at 3 pm.

Coursework requirements

Participation lectures
All candidates must attend a minimum of four of the six days of lecture to take the exam. Active participation is essential for this course.

Method of work

Instruction is provided through three two-day long sessions. Through establishing clear and appropriate expectations of both lecturers and students the module team aims to facilitate the highest possible learning experience reflecting the level of study. Students are expected to fully engage through active participation and contribution in the learning process.

We recommend the students to come prepared (having read identified readings, journal articles etc.) and that the students must contribute to presentations, seminars, group work etc.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
