Content

NB! This is an elective course and may be cancelled if fewer than 10 students are enrolled by August 20th for the autumn semester/January 20th for the spring semester.

The course content is in a relevant topic of geosciences and of importance for the study program in geosciences engineering. The course is taught by a visiting scientist from another university/research institute in Europe. The course aims to strengthen the basic background in geosciences. The content may include one or more of the following topics: Sedimentology, Structural geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, or Earth systems and climate.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Deepening of knowledge and understanding in an area of geosciences that is of relevance for the program and for the working environment.

Skills:

  • To be able to apply the knowledge gained in the course to geosciences problems, courses, the thesis project, and working practices.

General competence:

  • To communicate to geoscientists and engineers the relevance of the course topics in solving multidisciplinary problems in geosciences.

Required prerequisite knowledge

Recommended prerequisites

GEO100 Earth, Energy and Climate, GEO110 Sedimentology and Stratigraphy, GEO210 Structural Geology

Exam

Form of assessment Weight Duration Marks Aid
Report 1/1 1 Weeks Letter grades

The evaluation is based on an individual written project assignment at the end of the course counting 100% of the final grade. The visiting lecturer will define the assignment's duration before the semester starts. This assignment is of higher level than the corresponding assignment for the GEO230 Bachelor course. There is no final exam for this course. If a student wants to improve the grade, they must take the course over again.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
