A CIAM Human CAPiTAL HUB EVENT
  • Date and time: January 20th, 2022 at 09:00 – 10:30
  • Theme: Later Life in the Workplace
  • Lecturer: Reidar Johann Mykletun (UiS Business School)

Organisations are challenged by the ageing of the workforce. Added to this, there is a shortage of workforce and difficult to recruit younger skilled workers and craftsmen. One way to approach this problem is an increased leadership focus on how to retain the older workers for an extended working career, optimise the work processes in age mixed teams, and transfer older workers, knowledge to younger colleagues.

Responding to this, we will present the “Later Life Workplace Index” (LLWI) which maps the state of efficient use of the older workers. It taps into nine areas through the lenses of the older workers: 1) Organisational climate; 2) Leadership; 3) Work design; 4) Health management; 5) Individual development; 6) Knowledge management; 7) Transition to retirement; 8) Continued employment; and 9) Health and retirement coverage. The outcomes from each of these nine areas may be used as bases for improvements, which is the main benefit for using this index in your organisation. We will provide the feedback for organisations that want to try this index as well as support possible improvements.

Professor Jürgen Deller, Institute for management and Organization at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg and his group has developed this index, which is now translated to several languages for use in UK, Spain, US, Israel, China, Norway, as well as Germany. The index corresponds well with parts of the upcoming ISO/DIS 23623 Ageing Societies. Professor emeritus, Reidar J.. Mykletun at the Stavanger Business School is charge of the development of the Norwegian version of this index and part of the international LLWI team. The benefit for our project is to test the Norwegian version of the index.

In sum, we invite to an interesting session on a challenge facing almost all organisations in the Western world today. If you afterwards want to join us in applying the index in your organisation, we are in a win-win situation.
