In the oil and gas industry, the focus on logistics have historically been low. It has been viewed on as something that just need to be in place and work in order to support and increase production. In 2016, when the oil commodity prices fell from historically 115 USD to 28 USD per barrel, the focus on competitive and effective operations drastically increased.

When analyzing the cost picture of operations, logistics counts for a large amount of the total cost. In 2018, the Konkraft report stated that the oil and gas companies on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) needs to do more collaboration on logistics operations and increase the digitalization effort to be competitive. This is within utilization of resources like vessels and helicopters, and within material management to secure asset integrity of the installations.
In this presentation we will get an overview of the main logistics processes on the NCS, what the main challenges are, and an insight on how the oil and gas companies on the have worked with logistics improvements.

Nilsen is currently working as Global Logistics and Warehouse Manager in Wintershall Dea AG, coming from the role as Logistics and Marine Operations Manager in the company’s Norwegian branch. Before entering the oil and gas industry, Nilsen has worked in general industry within production management, and in the IT business with ERP implementations. He has an engineering background with specialization in Operations Management and has just finished his EMBA program at UiS Business School.
