Bio

Since 1996, Mark Drews has been the program leader for music production and recording studies at the Faculty of Performing Arts. He was educated as a music engineer at the University of Miami.

Mark Drews began his professional career in 1983 with recording of jazz and classical music for NRK in Bergen. From 1984 to 1995, he was senior sound engineer and lecturer at the Syracuse University School of Music, and was an active sound engineer and musician in Central New York.

He is the author of New Ears: A Guide to Education in Audio and the Recording Sciences and The Audio Career & Education Handbook. Drews has produced thousands of concerts and other music recordings in the US and Norway for radio, television, film and other commercial releases. He has also designed and installed a number of sound facilities for music recording and sound for pictures.

Drews has been a senior Fulbright researcher at the Rogaland Music Conservatory in Norway, an audio researcher at the Banff Center in Canada, an international guest researcher at the University of Michigan School of Music in the USA and a guest lecturer at many other institutions.

Drews is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services (SPARS). He is also a board member of AES Norway and the Norwegian Sound Institute in Stavanger. Drews has been involved with AES, NARAS and SPARS for over 30 years and has a large professional network. He also helped launch the modern AES student activities.
