About me
Fernando has been employed at the University of Stavanger since 2015. He has previously taught piano at Indiana University (2008) and at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid (2013).
He has helped promote Spanish music through numerous concerts in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Asia, as well as through two CD recordings. For a period he worked as a ballet accompanist at the Compañía Nacional de Danza in Spain, and he has also performed as an orchestral pianist in the United States, and regularly in Norway with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, he has appeared with the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra (RTVE), the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León, and the Sandnes Symphony Orchestra.
My research
I am researching the use of Artificial Intelligence in music, currently with a focus on conductor gestures. The goal is to develop advanced simulators that can be used both in music education and in professional musical performance.
Academic background
Fernando received his musical education from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and completed both a master’s degree and two postgraduate performance degrees at Indiana University in the United States, studying with Arnaldo Cohen and Menahem Pressler. In addition, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence.
