About me
I am Professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Stavanger (UiS).
Currently, I am the project leader of the UTFORSK grant titled «SCoDA – Statistics on Complex Data» funded by HK-dir (the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills) through 2028 (project no. UTF-2024/10203).
I am also an elected member of the institute board, and the Norwegian JSPS Alumni Association.
My research
My research focuses on statistical methods for complex and non-standard data. The main area is statistical shape analysis, including the development of shape models (such as skeletal models) and inference methods for data lying in non-Euclidean and stratified spaces, for example, the shapes of biological structures. This includes defining meaningful averages, hypothesis tests, and modes of variation for complex geometric data.
In addition, my interest also lies in directional statistics, statistics for high-dimensional and structured data, the integration of multiple data sources in medical research, and the modelling of patient state transitions and outcomes from time-dependent signals.
