About me
Sasan Zarghooni-Hoffmann is an associate professor at the University of Stavanger. He is affiliated with the bachelor programme for Customs and Border Management, the national study programme for customs officers in Norway. He holds the first Ph.D. in Norway related to customs and border control, and has specialized in customs agencies' functions in relation to societal security.
His main contributions to customs research include:
- Development of a framework aimed at strenghtening the theoretical foundation of the mostly practically-oriented security research on customs.
- Mapping of the Norwegian Customs' contributions to societal security, finding that their contribution is strongly underrepresented in national frameworks for security.
- Development of a systems-theoretical framework for analysing different modes of cross-sector cooperation in societal security, identifying dimensions that distinguish between these modes.
His current areas of customs research include smuggling, crime analysis, criminal intelligence, and intelligence-led policing.
Alongside his academic position, he serves part-time as a national accident investigator at the Norwegian National Rail Administration.
