PhD candidates in the Social Sciences and related fields are welcome to participate.

Admission requirements for single courses:

Applicants admitted to a PhD program at UiS can apply for course study rights via Studentweb and register for teaching and assessments (exams) up until the course start date. PhD candidates do not pay the semester fee.

Applicants without study rights at UiS for the upcoming semester should apply through Søknadsweb.
Applicants without a Norwegian personal identity number or Norwegian citizenship must contact the admissions office by email enkeltemner@uis.no

To qualify for admission to single courses at PhD-level, you must be either document enrollment in a doctoral programme at a degree-granting institution within the EU/EEA or Switzerland, or provide documentation of participation in a research school within the EU/EEA or Switzerland. If there are more applicants than the 15 admission places available, a selection will be made based on an assessment of the relevance of the course for the candidate’s research plan and qualifications in the relation to the objectives of the course. The course coordinator carry out the selection process.

After the application deadline

When can I expect to get an answer to my application?

The results are usually sent in the middle of August for applications to the Autumn semester.
The results are usually sent in the middle of December for applications to the Spring semester.

I have accepted the offer. What should I do next?

After you accept the offer, you will get a study right. When you get the study right, you will have to log in to Studentweb in order to register for teaching and assessments (exams).

How do I register for teaching and assessments (exams)?

In Studentweb, you will have to search for the course code in "My Active Courses" and sign up for the course.

When is the deadline to register for teaching and assessments (exams)?

The deadline for registration for teaching and assessments (exams) for the Autumn semester is 1 September, and the deadline for registration for the Spring semester is 1 February.

Transcript of Record

If you want or need documentation on courses you have passed at UiS, you can log in to the Diploma registry to share your results electronically. You can also download a digitally signed transcript in Studentweb. This replaces the old transcript on paper. Read more about transcript of records.

Canvas

Canvas is our learning platform (Learning Management System) which is used for communication between students and teachers. The Faculty uses Canvas for submission and approval of essays, distribution of literature etc. Link to login: https://stavanger.instructure.com/
