About the AI Talk: Interviewing children for research is a common way to gather qualitative data, but it is not always easy. In the SELFICON project, researchers interview young children about self-regulation — an abstract concept for a 6-year-old. To improve interview quality, the team partnered with innsikt.ai to develop AI avatar children that researchers can practice with before going into the field. In her talk, Dieuwer will present this tool and how any researcher can use it to strengthen their child interview skills.

About the speaker: Dieuwer ten Braak is an associate professor of psychology at the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education at the University of Stavanger. Her research focuses on early childhood and cognitive development, particularly executive function and self-regulation. Her current project, SELFICON – Self-regulation in Context, is funded by the Research Council of Norway.
