We’re excited to invite you to the 7th episode of AI Talks, hosted by SAIL (Stavanger AI Lab) at the University of Stavanger.
Talk: “Moving fast, breaking things”: A critical discussion of AI and why we can’t have nice things
Speaker: Raul Ferrer-Conill, Professor of Journalism, University of Stavanger
About the talk:
Ferrer-Conill brings a critical social-science perspective to AI’s “move fast and break things” mantra, challenging techno-centric narratives with questions of power, inequality, and accountability. In this AI Talk, he examines how AI systems can reproduce biases, entrench existing power structures, and erode trust, privacy, and democratic processes. Drawing on critical technology studies, he asks: Who benefits from AI, and who bears the costs? How do corporate incentives collide with the public good, and what technological interdependencies are we locking in for decades to come?
