DiCoTe: Resources for ECEC

Through play and exploration with coding toys in ECEC, children can develop key skills. In addition to gaining experience with technology, children also learn about the structures and patterns that underlie programming and mathematics. In an era where digital competence is becoming increasingly important, children will receive an early introduction to the concepts behind, for example, algorithms, sequencing and problem-solving in an engaging way through play and exploration. This exploration also supports children's development of critical thinking, collaboration and self-confidence. To support the children, educator's professional digital competence is central.

The resources are developed by the research project DiCoTe as a support for promoting ECEC educators' professional digital competence and competence in mathematics with young children. The resources focus on how the educators can strengthen children's understanding and exploration of mathematics and programming through play with coding toys.

All resources contain professional videos, reflection questions and suggestions for activities. The resources can be used individually or in the staff group, e.g. in professional competence development. The resources place great emphasis on collaboration and active participation. They are free and openly available to everyone.
