The group conducts research in algebraic geometry, complex analysis and geometry, mathematical models and differential equations, and differential geometry and mathematical physics.

## What are we researching?

Facts about our research.

Algebraic geometry is a part of mathematics that is classically devoted to the study of the solution sets of polynomial equations in several variables, so-called algebraic varieties.

Complex analysis focuses on the study of calculus involving complex numbers, with applications in complex geometry and harmonic analysis.

Differential equations are important within mathematical models that are used to gain insight into mechanisms within transport and reaction processes.

Mathematical physics can be interpreted as the application of rigorous mathematical methods to problems in physics, in areas such as cosmology, relativity, geometry, quantum mechanics, supersymmetry and string theory.

## Geometry

The group has an ongoing ISP project called "Geometry" (2022-2024), with the following activities:

- International conference: "String geometry in Stavanger" 10-12/8 2022, https://indico.uis.no/event/20/
- Talent-in-residence, November 2022: Ida Zadeh (Mainz)
- National mini-workshop: "Stavanger Geometry Christmas meeting" 20/12 2022, https://indico.uis.no/event/27/
- Weekly seminar activity: A joint project in homologous mirror symmetry

**Under planning:**

- Conference 28-30/8 2023 with topics within algebraic geometry
- Workshop "Nordic String Meeting" in November/December 2023
- Talent-in-residence, August 2023: Sabrina Pauli (Düsseldorf)
