Forensic archaeology can be defined as the application of traditional archaeological theory and method to legal investigations. It is a growing field in several countries, but in Norway there has so far been no systematic effort to develop the forensic archaeology at any level, in education, research or police work practices.
This seminar aims to bring professionals together and to encourage new collaborations and development within the field. In this seminar, archaeologists, professionals, and researchers within the archaeological field, from Norway and abroad, will present methods and skills of relevance to forensics, in the field and the laboratory.
In addition, we’ll be able to learn from experienced researchers from Sweden and Denmark, working in the cross-section between archaeology, anthropology and forensics. This will provide a basis for a discussion of potential for development in the field in Norway, and the building of a network where this dialogue may continue.
