The UiS School of Business and Law is looking for skilled and motivated students who wish to combine their studies with work in spring 2026. The application deadline is October 31.
As a teaching assistant, you can make a meaningful contribution to your fellow students’ learning experiences—especially by presenting academic content from a student’s perspective. You’re able to communicate subject matter in a way that differs from an experienced lecturer, offering a fresh and relatable angle. Student feedback consistently highlights the value of teaching assistants in supporting learning.
Typical tasks may include meeting with students, organizing seminars and group work, facilitating lab sessions, providing feedback on assignments, and registering attendance for mandatory activities. All work is carried out in collaboration with, and under the supervision of, the course coordinator.
Since the responsibilities of a teaching assistant may vary from course to course, tasks and time commitment are agreed directly with the course coordinator.

ØkadLounge is an academic and social meeting place for students in the bachelor’s program (both first and second year) in Business Administration, as well as the one-year program in Economics and Management. In ØkadLounge, students can study, get help from fellow students, and connect with friends and peers. Waffles and warm drinks are served, and teaching assistants are always present to help with academic questions. As a teaching assistant, your job is to make students feel welcome, create a positive atmosphere, and assist with any questions they may have to the best of your ability.
Working hours
The number of hours a teaching assistant works throughout the semester depends on the plan developed by the course instructor in collaboration with the teaching assistant. This can range from a few hours over a couple of weeks to up to 10 hours per week. Working hours always include both contact time with students and preparation time (e.g., preparing for seminars and reviewing assignments). Working hours are agreed upon between the teaching assistant and the course instructor and must be approved by the dean or program coordinator. As a full-time student, your workload should not exceed 10 hours per week.
Salary
Teaching assistants are paid on an hourly basis in accordance with the current government pay scale:
- Bachelor’s students: NOK 206 per hour (pay grade 32)
- Master’s students: NOK 210 per hour (pay grade 34)
Requirements
You must have received at least a grade B in the course you are applying to assist in. If you have not previously taken the course, the instructor will make a discretionary assessment of your qualifications. If you have education from another institution, you must submit a transcript with documentation of your grades in the relevant courses. Send this by email to Cecilie E. Lund (cecilie.e.lund@uis.no), and clearly mark which courses the application concerns. Students who do not submit the required documentation will not be considered. To be a teaching assistant in a master’s level course, you must be a second-year master’s student.
Certificate of Employment
All teaching assistants will receive a certificate of completion.
Students with TA experience are preferred over others when we are recruiting. This is because they have relevant experience and have shown commitment during their studies.
Why become a teaching assistant?
Here are five great reasons!
Employers don’t just look at education when recruiting. How do you stand out from other recent graduates with the same degree? A job as a teaching assistant gives you relevant work experience even before you graduate. By combining work and studies, you also demonstrate that you are organized and have strong work capacity.
This is a part-time role that can be combined with full-time studies. Being a teaching assistant signals that you possess valuable skills: you are capable, engaged, and motivated. It shows that you’re willing to take on challenges and aren’t afraid to dive into something new.
There’s hardly a better way to learn than by teaching. By explaining academic content to fellow students, you develop a deeper understanding of the subject yourself. It also stimulates your creativity and communication skills, as you interact with students from diverse backgrounds and levels of knowledge.
Most people feel uncomfortable presenting in front of an audience—but it’s all about practice! The more often you dare to step outside your comfort zone, the more it expands. You’ll also experience the joy of seeing fellow students grasp a difficult theory—thanks to your help—that you yourself recently struggled with and eventually mastered.
As a teaching assistant, you’ll have the opportunity to build important social and academic networks by working closely with lecturers at the Business School. Strong collaboration skills are highly valued in the job market.
