Apply for green funds from UiS

We welcome good ideas from across the university—large or small—that can help foster a green transition at UiS among students and staff. The ideas may concern operations and physical solutions, but also research and education related to sustainability and the green transition. This is a one-off call for proposals.

Who can apply?

Students (individually or in groups), student associations and student organizations, all UiS employees, and groups or collaborations involving students, staff, and organizational units. Collaboration between different groups at the university is encouraged. Applications may be submitted in Norwegian or English.

What you can apply for

Applications may be submitted for support for initiatives that contribute to, or generate engagement around, the green transition at UiS—whether on campus, through educational programmes, or through the research conducted here. The projects must have a clear link to the green transition as outlined in the UiS strategy or the UiS Climate and Environment Plan.

We are particularly looking for projects that

• can lead to lasting initiatives, activities, or ripple effects at UiS
• links knowledge to action
• leverages UiS’s learning and research environments to make a difference in the green transition

Relevant examples include student initiatives promoting sustainability and engagement; pilot projects and the testing of new solutions on campus; the procurement of equipment and materials; the development of teaching and/or learning activities focused on the green transition; small-scale research and innovation projects clearly relevant to the green transition; artistic development projects; and various types of events such as workshops, conferences, or seminars etc.

Funding is not provided for ordinary operations or activities that are already fully funded through other budgets. Funding may be provided for salary costs (e.g., student assistants) related to data collection or coordination. Students and staff at UiS with business ideas related to the green transition are referred to UiS’s incubator, Validé.

How much you can apply for

Students and staff may apply for funding for smaller or more extensive initiatives, up to a maximum of NOK 150,000. The grant amount is determined based on the project's scope, expected impact, and budget.

How to apply

A concise application must be submitted electronically via Nettskjema. The form consists of three questions and must include:

1. A brief description of the initiative and its expected benefits for the green transition at UiS.
2. Who is executing the project (individual, group, and/or association)
3. Budget and intended use of funds

Applications are evaluated by representatives from the Green Transition Working Group, the Research Department, and the Department of Building and Land Management. Particular emphasis is placed on:

• Green impact – how clear and measurable the contribution to the green transition at UiS is.
• Feasibility – clarity of methodology and realism of the schedule, as well as the budget within the project period.
• Span of benefits – the extent to which the initiative benefits students, staff, or UiS as a whole.

Timeline

• 10 August: Call is published
• 9 September: Application deadline
• 14 September - 31 Desember: Execution period

All projects must be completed by December 31st 2026. A brief text (report) is to be submitted in January, describing the activities carried out and the results achieved, as well as how the funds were used.
