In this course we will focus on how knowledge about communication, creativity and cultural sensitivity can be used as tools to be aware of possibilities and dilemmas in kindergartens characterized by diversity, and to find opportunities to ensure democracy and participation at all levels.

After completing the course, the candidate will have the following learning outcomes;

  • facilitate inclusive and creative forms of communication and collaboration practices.
  • motivate and support children´s involvement, meaning making and participation in different communication contexts.
  • meet and invite guardians and colleagues to participate with a sensitive and inclusive approach.

The candidate can

  • use knowledge about cultural sensitivity, communication and creativity to be aware possibilities and dilemmas in Early Childhood´s everyday lives.
  • formulate, reflect and discuss opportunities and dilemmas related to diversity.
  • use knowledge about cultural sensitivity, communication and creativity to develop possibilities and solve dilemmas in interaction with children and guardians at relevant Early Childhood arenas and take care of their rights to participation.

Recommended prerequisites

Applicants with high school and, either enrolment in a relevant bachelor program or at least one year of work experience in ECEC, will be given priority. The course is open to both bachelor´s and master´s students and can be adapted to both levels.

Method of work

The methods in the course is characterized by challenge based and problem based learning (CBL and PBL). The students will take part in both digital and physical workshops that focus on collaboration and exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Course materials:

• 180-210 pages of relevant research-based literature.

• A digital CBL-resource based on cases defined through data from the Eramus+ project developed for the course.
