Introduksjon

The course gives fundamental knowledge about design, construction and maintenance of pipelines and risers.

Content

NB! This is an elective course and may be cancelled if fewer than 10 students are enrolled by August 20th for the autumn semester.

Pipelines Wall thickness selection. Material selection. Local and global buckling of pipes. Hyrodynamics of pipelines. Pipe/soil interaction. On-bottom stability. Vortex shedding induced vibrations, fatigue. Interaction with Fishing gear. Installation of pipelines. Tie-in methods. Operational aspects of pipelines, inspection, maintenance and repair. Pipeline defect assessment. Pipeline Bundles. Deep water risers.

Learning outcome

By completing this course, students will gain the following knowledge, skills and general competencies in:

  • Gain an understanding of pipeline routing
  • Can perform pipeline hydraulics calculations to estimate pipe diameter to the acceptable pressure drop
  • Can perform pipeline structural design calculations for internal and external pressure and longitudinal stress due to temperature and pressure
  • Can perform On-bottom stability of pipeline calculations
  • Gain an understanding into material selection, welding and ECA
  • Can perform Buckling of Pipeline and Pipeline walking calculations
  • Gain an understanding into Pipeline installation
  • Gain an understanding into Riser design and advanced riser system issues
