Are you taking a bullshit degree?

Thursday 25 September 2025 12:00-13:00,
Universitetsbiblioteket, Ullandhaug.

The debate about so-called tullestudier (bullshit degrees) has been going on for years. Before the summer, Conservative politician Peter Frølich reignited it.

Has higher education become too little concerned with the societal usefulness of degree programmes, and too focused on offering whatever students want to apply for? Do we really need programmes where the “A” in the diploma stands for arbeidsledig (unemployed)?

Or could the pressure against what some call “bullshit degrees” ultimately threaten academic freedom?

In this debate, we want to shed light on what actually makes a degree programme socially useful, and where we should draw the line for how “socially relevant” our education should be.
