The Norwegian Humanist Association and the University of Stavanger invite you to an evening seminar on the future of democracy.

Much of the digital infrastructure we depend on is hidden, dominated by big data logics, and commercially motivated. This poses a threat to democracy. Helle Sjøvaag leads a research project on precisely this issue. She will give the evening’s first talk on democratic preparedness. Sjøvaag is a professor of journalism at UiS.
The second talk of the evening will be given by Raul Ferrer-Conill, who will speak about artificial intelligence (AI) and democracy. AI creates both opportunities and threats for democracy. Raul will address three critical systems that will be transformed by AI: the information environment, the development of knowledge, and the formation of shared social realities. Ferrer-Conill is an associate professor of journalism at UiS.
There will be time for questions and discussion over a cup of coffee and some refreshments. The event is free and open to all.
Free tickets are available here.
This event is part of Humanist Week and a collaboration between the Norwegian Humanist Association and the University of Stavanger.
