Master in Business Administration at the University of Stavanger School of Business and Law (Stavanger, Norway) is a comprehensive four-semester program that builds a strong analytical foundation for the modern labor market. Applicants apply directly to one major—Finance, Economics, or Management—and admission is to that major. Accredited by EFMD Global, the degree is internationally recognized for quality.

Students combine core courses with electives and may add an international exchange or internship for real-world experience. The program culminates in a Master’s thesis addressing applied business challenges. Students can also join MHH001, an optional, highly practical seminar series that sharpens early-career skills in teamwork, negotiation, communication, Excel, and AI—a powerful boost to global employability.

Syllabus

Structured over four semesters.

Semester 1

Two foundation courses for the major + Business Decisions (common for all MSB students, Harvard-style case-based course)

Semester 2

Continue on foundation courses for the major with some specialization (choosing tracks) within the major.

Semester 3

-International Exchange (30 ECTS): Choose from our partner universities around the world.

Career prospects

Career opportunities: Master in Business Administration prepares graduates for leadership and specialist roles across business, industry, government, and NGOs. Typical paths include fund/asset management, investment analysis, corporate finance, economic and policy analysis, energy and environmental impact analysis, sustainable business development, strategy & operations, and supply chain management. Management-focused roles span HRM and people analytics, leadership and change management, organization development, AI-enabled strategic decision-making, project/program management, and consulting. The degree also meets formal entry requirements for PhD programs.
A Master degree in Business Administration also meets the formal requirement for admission to Ph.D. programs.

Course assessment

The UiS School of Business and Law collects feedback from students through dialogues and written course evaluations. The study programme also has a study programme committee with student, faculty and business representatives which handles matters concerning the study programme.

Student exchange

Exchange semester (Semester 3)

Study abroad with UiS partners. In the third semester, you can take 30 ECTS of electives at one of UiS’ partner institutions. This is a chance to build a unique course portfolio, grow your international network, and strengthen your profile for globally oriented employers.

We recommend going on exchange after completing the first 60 ECTS of the programme.

You have 30 ECTS of electives and may choose freely among approved courses at the host university.

Pick courses at a corresponding academic level that do not overlap with courses you have taken or will take at UiS.

Aim for a coherent specialisation aligned with your interests and career goals.

Consider subjects not offered at UiS to broaden your competence.

Admission requirements

Applicants with foreign educational background must have a bachelor's degree with minimum 90 ECTS within economics and administrative disciplines: Business Economics, Administrative Science, Economics and Methodology. The subjects within the fields of business economics and administrative sciences must be equal to minimum 30 ECTS. Methodology must include both mathematics and statistics.

There is a requirement for minimum grade average of C on ECTS scale.

Applicants who enter this programme based on these academic requirements will receive the degree Master of Science in Business Administration after completing the programme. They will not automatically obtain the professional title siviløkonom.
