Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance (PDM) caters to candidates with ambitions to develop their musical and instrumental technical performance competence.

The programme is organised as a full-time study programme and consists of two courses of 30 credits that conclude with exams respectively autumn and spring semester. The student can expect to participate in various artistic productions that take place at the faculty or externally.

Relevant partners may be; Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Stavanger Jazz Forum/Mai Jazz and other professional ensembles nationally and abroad.

The student is assigned a supervisor. At the beginning of each semester, the student will be informed of any projects, and one must be prepared to set aside time for teaching, group work, projects, etc. outside normal working hours. (cf. Requirements for attendance).

The programme places great demands on independence and to be able to work with music in a professional manner.

In the same way as notes, textbooks and other materials, students must expect costs for study-related activities. Students must also be prepared to set aside some afternoons, evenings and weekends for teaching, group work, practice, preparations for concerts/performances, projects, etc. (cf. Regulations regarding absence from projects, and annual schedule). Students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning and in this context must expect time for self-practice according to individual goals and/or needs.

The programme gives the candidate a diploma for completed PDM. It is a separate study unit and will not be able to be part of the performing master's degree in music at the Faculty of Performing Arts.
