There can be many reasons to talk with the university chaplain. Problems, questions, or choices you are facing. It may be difficult experiences, or that you are feeling sad or exhausted without knowing exactly how to deal with it.
Maybe you’re struggling with heartbreak, or grieving something else that has been lost in your life.

You might be wondering about life and the future, and need help sorting your thoughts and seeing what your strengths are. Or perhaps it would simply feel good to sit down with someone who takes time to focus on you.

Life is complex, and so is student life. Not every day is easy. Tough decisions, complicated thoughts, or painful emotions can sometimes be easier to handle when shared with someone. Maybe you just need another human being to think out loud with. Maybe you want to talk about God, about faith or doubt, or would like someone to pray for you.

The university chaplain is here for you. Get in touch if you’d like to talk about your life—whether things are going well or you’re struggling. The chaplain is bound by confidentiality.

Emergency Preparedness

The university chaplain is also part of the emergency preparedness team at UiS, and is especially involved in psychosocial support following deaths, accidents, or crises.

Quiet room

There are two quiet rooms at UiS; one in Arne Rettedals hus and one in SiS Studenthus.

The room is always open and is open to everyone, regardless of denomination or faith.

Sometimes we need a room that is different. A place of refuge from a sometime hectic world. A place where we can be free from requirements and expectations. A place to gather our thoughts. A place for silence, rest, prayer, meditation and reflection.

You can find a quiet room ("Stillerom") on the 1st floor of the Arne Rettedal Building, V-212. The room is always open – to everyone.

There is also a quiet room ("Rom for ro og tanke") in the downstairs floor of SiS Studenthus, room U-066.

Other religions

At the diverse campus environment at UiS, you will also find other faith traditions. The student chaplain can help you get in touch with representatives from your own tradition.

The student chaplain is there for you, no matter your faith.

The student chaplain is employed by the Church of Norway to serve all students in Stavanger, regardless of belief or worldview. Everyone is welcome to get in touch—whether you believe, don’t believe, or aren’t quite sure what you believe.

The Christian student community in Stavanger is large and varied. The student chaplain is in dialogue with congregations and organisations who reach out to students.

Student welfare

A large number of people are working for you to have the best possible time as a student.

You can get a glimpse of this network during the Fadder festival week.

The student organisation StOr also organises many excellent events. It's well worth coming along to their "Coffee around the world" and Cinema Lottery meetings, which are held every Thursday at 2 pm in the Book Cafe. These are very international occasions, and are a great opportunity to meet students from all over the world and to win one of eight cinema tickets for the film showing that evening.

The Student Welfare Association (SiS) attends to many aspects of student welfare in Stavanger. Particularly important here is their work with SiS Health.
