Improving Quality and Capacity of Mathematics Teacher Education in Malawi

This development project aims at developing learning outcomes in Malawi primary schools through capacity building. The project is funded by the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (NORHED).

Malawi visit in 2013

Malawi National Examinations Board statistics show a poor performance in learners in mathematics in primary and secondary school, as well as low mastery of numeracy skills. The project addresses these challenges through quality and capacity building of teacher education in Malawi employing the expertise of the University of Malawi and University of Stavanger.

The overall goal is that the children in Malawi primary schools will receive high quality, research based mathematics education taught by qualified mathematics educators.

The project runs from 2013-2018.
