Etter fullført emne skal studenten
- ha bred kunnskap om historiografi og historieundervisningens historie
- kjenne til forsknings- og utviklingsarbeid innenfor fagområdet og historieundervisningens historie
- kunne oppdatere sin kunnskap innenfor fagområdet
- ha kunnskap om historiens egenart, plass i samfunnet, herunder hvordan historie brukes

Etter fullført emne skal studenten
- kunne anvende kunnskap om historiografi, historieundervisningens historie, historiebruk og relevante resultater fra forsknings- og utviklingsarbeid på praktiske og teoretiske problemstillinger og treffe begrunnede valg
- kunne reflektere over egen faglig utøvelse og justere denne under veiledning
- kunne finne, vurdere og henvise til historiske kilder og teori og framstille dette slik at det belyser en problemstilling

- ha innsikt i relevante problemstillinger i faget og i utøvelsen av yrke som historiker
- kunne planlegge og gjennomføre varierte arbeidsoppgaver og prosjekter som strekker seg over tid, alene og som deltaker i en gruppe, og i tråd med etiske krav og retningslinjer
- kunne utveksle synspunkter og erfaringer med andre med bakgrunn i historiefaget
- kunne formidle fagkunnskaper og argumentere i muntlig form

Vilkår for å gå opp til eksamen/vurdering
Obligatoriske innleveringer. Gjennom semesteret vil studentene få utlevert totalt to korte oppgaver knyttet til pensumlitteratur, nettressurser og forelesningstema Disse må besvares og godkjennes innen angitt frist før studenten kan gå opp til eksamen. Studenter som får en eller flere av oppgavene vurdert til ikke godkjent ved første innlevering, gis mulighet for en ny innlevering av oppgaven(e) i bearbeidet form.
