– This is a rare opportunity to learn state-of-the-art microeconometric methods from one of the foremost experts in the field, says course coordinator and Professor of Economics Torfinn Harding.

Econometrics is an essential method in the field of empirical economic research. Econometrics uses statistical methods and quantitative data to study causality. It is often used to analyse the effect of various policy measures such as: Will people work less if we raise the income tax? How effective is punishment in reducing crime? Does new technology make businesses more efficient?

The econometrics course aims to develop the necessary knowledge to understand, design, conduct, and interpret empirical analyses of real-world data.

– Over the years, we have seen economics become increasingly more empirical. It is crucial for future economists to master data analysis, especially if you want to assert yourself in the field of economic research, says Harding.

What will you learn?

In this course, you will learn key microeconometric methods and understand their strengths and weaknesses. You will be able to conduct empirical analyses of real-world data and evaluate your own and others' analyses from a scientific perspective. You will also have proficiency in software designed for data analysis and estimation.

Who is the course for?

The course is suited for PhD students in economics as well as the other social sciences. To attend the course, you must be enrolled in a PhD programme. The recommended prerequisite is a master's degree in economics or similar. The language of instruction is English.
