Awal Mohammed Alhassan is an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Stavanger (UiS). He previously taught English, Social Science, Science and courses in Psychology and Career Guidance at various institutions and universities. 

His research focuses on diversity and inclusion, multiculturalism, special education and minority studies. He is a prolific and innovative researcher employing mixed methodologies  with a wide range of theoretical approaches in his research. He has published several articles in professional journals.

He was team leader in FVO and FOV01-01 projects of the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training in his previous work. Among current projects he works with include Inclusive Practices and Bullying as well as Learning Environment (LMP) in which the research team collaborates with both municipalities and counties to create good learning environment in Norwegian secondary schools. He holds a PhD in Inclusive Education, as well as a Master of Science in Development Studies and a Master of Philosophy in Multicultural and International Education.
