I am a professor of Natural Science in early childhood teacher education, with a background in ecology, botany, and paleoecology, and a PhD in soil and environmental sciences from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). My research is related to human – nature interrelationships and interactions, both today (including children, and addressing sustainability) and in prehistory (referring to soil micromorphology, soil education and soil literacy).

Within the UiS smart sustainable cities research network Smart sustainable cities research network | University of Stavanger (uis.no), I am engaged in urban gardening, urban childhood, sustainability and environmental citizenship.

As a soil micromorphologist, I have earlier studied cultural landscape development, and human impact on soils and sediments, with a focus on ancient (especially Iron Age) land use and land management practices in Norway and Sweden.
