Kort om meg
I am an Associate Professor of English Linguistics at the Department of Cultural Studies and Languages, University of Stavanger (UiS). I am originally from the Netherlands, where I received my PhD from the University of Amsterdam (UvA). I then held a postdoctoral position at UiT The Arctic University of Tromsø for five years before starting my current position at UiS in August 2025.
My research focuses on bi-/multilingualism and language acquisition in both children and adults. The main questions I seek to address are: 1) Which areas of language are most susceptible to change in bilingual populations? 2) How can two or more languages influence each other in the bi-/multilingual mind and in society? and 3) How do the quantity and quality of input shape language development and outcomes in bilinguals? In my work, I focus on (morpho)syntactic and interface phenomena, using behavioral methods (e.g., acceptability judgments, elicited production) as well as online processing measures (e.g., self-paced reading, eye tracking). At UiS, I am a member of the research group FLUENT: FLerspråklig Utvikling og Endring i Nyere Tid (Multilingual Development and Change in Society Today).
In the 2025–2026 academic year, I (co-)teach the following courses in the Bachelor’s programme in English Language and Literature: Introduction to English Grammar (ENG112, autumn 2025), English Pronunciation (ENG122), and Language in Culture and Society (ENG123).
