Kort om meg

Igor Eliseev is a Norway‐based internationally recognised double bass player. He comes from the St. Petersburg bass tradition and is deeply interested in expanding and renewing the repertoire for double bass, both as a solo instrument and in chamber music settings.

He plays a rare Grancino double bass from c. 1670.

Beyond his performance career, he is committed to pedagogy: he teaches main instrument lessons in double bass at the University of Stavanger and gives masterclasses internationally.

Dette forsker jeg på

Igor Eliseev is engaged in several exciting projects which blend performance, commissioning, and outreach. These include:

World Premiere of Jan Erik Mikalsen’s Bass Concerto (2023)

He premiered a new concerto work for double bass by Norwegian composer Jan Erik Mikalsen. This contributes both to expanding the solo bass repertoire and to performing new works.

BassFest Boccherini International (2022)

Participation in a festival focused on Boccherini and bass repertoire. Likely involves performance, maybe masterclasses or commissioning arrangements.

Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival (2021)

Involvement in chamber music performance and programming in an international festival setting.

EliseevCases

He is the founder of EliseevCases, which suggests an interest in instrumental materials / instrument preservation or logistics (cases for double basses).

In addition to the artistic projects, there is artistic production at the University of Stavanger associated with performances (concerts) with other ensembles (e.g. the Norwegian Contrabass Club, Stavanger Domkor and Cathedral Ensemble) as listed in his “publications / artist‐productions” record.

Akademisk bakgrunn

Eliseev’s musical education began at the Special Music School of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory and continued at the conservatory itself, where he completed his formal studies. In 2009–2010, he pursued a fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London in the class of Professor Rinat Ibragimov. He later undertook postgraduate studies at the University of Stavanger in 2010–2011, working with the renowned baroque violinist Sirkkka-Liisa Kaakinen-Pilch. Since 2008, Igor has been a dedicated pedagogue, teaching at the University of Stavanger and offering masterclasses across Europe, including in Bulgaria, Germany, and Norway.
