Kort om meg
Rune Todnem By, Ph.D. is Professor of Leadership; chairholder of the UNESCO Chair on Leadership, Innovation and Anticipation; and director of MTN Master i Transformasjon og Nyskaping (Lifelong learning programme; MTI Master's in Transformation and Innovation) - Norway's first and only leadership master's programme based on design thinking principles - at the UiS School of Business and Law. He is the longest serving editor-in-chief of Journal of Change Management: Reframing Leadership and Organizational Practice (2008-2024), co-editor on books on leadership and organisational change, and ranked as #1 in the world within the field of change management (ScholarGPS).
Following 15 years in British academia, Rune returned to Norway in 2019 to continue his scholar-practitioner work on leadership and organisational change with a particular focus on contributing to reframing theory and practice to better address 21st century challenges. In his time back in Norway, he has served PeoplewithE, Aker BP, and Stavanger University Hospital in 20% roles, and contributed to (change)leadership development in organisations such as:
- Aker BP
- Bouvet
- Equinor
- HR Norge
- Indre Østfold kommune (municipality)
- Lyse (including Ice Norge)
- Norway Summit
- Stavanger Chamber of Commerce
- Stavanger University Hospital
- Oceaneering
- Shell (Norway + US)
- Skagen Fondene
- Stavanger kommune (municipality)
- Subsea 7
- Sør-Vest politidistrikt
- Trondheim kommune (municipality)
Rune is a conceptual researcher, and has coined (1) the EPICally MAD leadership framework (see TEDx), (2) the PAC leadership ontology* (focusing on the production of Purpose, Alignment and Commitment), and (3) the Telos Leadership Lens (TLL)* suggesting that
1) Leadership is a responsibility of the many, not a privilege of the few
2) Leadership is the collective pursuit of delivering on purpose
3) Leadership purpose is to be guided by internal goods (what is best for most).
