I et samarbeid mellom Apply AS, Statens vegvesen og prosjektet kapasitetsløft tunnelsikkerhet (KATS) ved Universitetet i Stavanger, forsker stipendiat Syed Taha på vedlikeholdsplanlegging i tunnelindustrien. Målet med PhD-prosjektet er erfaringsoverføring av beste praksis, kunnskap, kompetanse og teknologi, mellom olje- og gass-sektoren og tunnelindustrien når det gjelder styring av ressurser og verdier. Apply har tung erfaring fra olje- og gassindustrien, mens Statens vegvesen med samarbeidspartnere har innsikten i tunnelsikkerhetsnæringens prosesser. Den komparative studien vil øke forståelsen av beste praksiser i begge sektorene.
PhD-prosjektet er en del av kapasitetsløftets delmål / arbeidspakke 3; Utvikle industrielt anvendbare modeller for trafikk, ulykker og beredskap i tunnel, og vil bidra til økt omstillingskompetanse både for Apply selv og tunnelsikkerhetsnæringen generelt.
– Samarbeidet om dette nærings-PhD prosjektet bidrar til å styrke relasjonen mellom FoU-arbeid og industri, som økt kunnskap knyttet til næringsvirksomhet, praktiske utfordringer og teoretiske perspektiver, sier Syed Taha.

– Videre forteller Taha at, det forventes at samarbeidet med SVV bidrar med informasjon som kan benyttes til flere akademiske formål. Som for eksempel til økt forretningsforståelse, forslag til løsninger og den reelle praksisen i bransjen basert på praktiske utfordringer.

As a cooperation between Apply AS, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) and the Capacity Boost Tunnel Safety-project (KATS) led by the University of Stavanger, PhD-Fellow Syed Taha is working on an industrial PhD focusing on Asset Management. The aim of this project is to test synergies by sharing best practices, knowledge, competence and technology between the Norwegian Oil & Gas and Tunnel industry. Apply has extensive experience in providing engineering and safety services to Oil & Gas industry, on the contrary, Statens Vegvesen has been long involved in building and managing the Norwegian roads safety. The comparative study will identify opportunities in both sectors and utilize best practices and experiences to overcome any potential gaps.
This PhD-project is linked to KATS as one of the activities related to our sub-goal / work package 3; Develop industrially applicable models for traffic, accidents and preparedness in tunnels, and will contribute to increased competence and adaptability for both Apply and the tunnel safety industry.
– Moreover, this collaboration forms a strong bond between the academics and industry, where understanding of business thinking, practical challenges and scientific theories are few to be mentioned, says Syed Taha.
