Get a greater understanding of Human-Technology-Organization (HTO) interaction and Human Factor (HF) aspects in complex engineering systems and environments.
This course was originally developed in collaboration with Statoil, the Petroleum Safety Authority, and Institute for Energy technology (IFE). It covers a range of issues, theories, principles and practices related to the HTO and HF.
The course will give you increased knowledge on various human-technological-organizational/human factor aspects related to design, operations, and management of complex technical systems in different industrial settings, that can help minimize unwanted events as well as increasing productivity.
Risk and Complex systems perspective are the core of the course, which also includes models, methodologies, and standards at both macro and micro level in modern systems. Bringing different disciplines and business expertise together to address and exploit the different perspectives of HTO projects is central to the course
The programme is highly relevant for both the private and the public sector. It is aimed at engineers with activities related to engineering systems, industrial production, process, design, operation and maintenance, risk management and cost engineering.

The course is divided into four modules:
- Introduction to HTO/HF, human characteristics, assumptions, and limitations
- Organizational relationships and work processes
- Design and operation of complex technological systems
- Systems perspective of complex technological environments
All lectures of MTO/HF course will be digital.
Lectures will be held following days through Microsoft Team / ZOOM.
There will be other individual/group based learning activities designed into the course in-between lecture days’’.
