Course content

The course specifically deals with different technologies such as heat pumps, and steam cycles, as well as flash, and binary systems, as applied to geothermal energy systems for different applications, such as power production or thermal applications. The course provides you a summary of applied thermodynamics, and reviews applications of some thermodynamic diagrams to perform simple system analysis.
Learning outcome
It is expected that students:
- understand societal needs for energy transition and sustainable development
- learn the basics of geothermal resource classification, identification, and development
- understand different exploration strategies and geothermal well operations
- have broad and basic knowledge of thermodynamics applied to geothermal energy systems
- know about different technologies for geothermal energy utilization including thermal and power systems
After taking the course, students should know how to:
- apply an interdisciplinary approach to various geothermal energy projects
- use different thermodynamic diagrams to extract necessary parameters for simple system analysis
- carry out preliminary energy analysis of geothermal systems (both for thermal and power applications) from an energy, environmental and performance perspective.
