Professor Klaus Mohn to be the next rector

The board of the University of Stavanger (UiS) has chosen Klaus Mohn (54) to be rector of UiS from 1 August 2019.

The rector-to-be says he will set speed and direction for UiS, in cooperation with students and employees.

“I have grown up with UiS and watched its rapid development, both from the outside and now from the inside. Therefore, I have ambitions on behalf of the university. With a career in the interface between academia, business and society, I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to use my expertise in such a big and meaningful way," says Mohn about his new job.

Broad background

Klaus  Mohn is currently Professor of Petroleum Economics at UiS Business School. He is a graduate economist, and holds a doctorate from the University of Stavanger. His education also comprises English and history studies.

Mohn has worked as a researcher at Statistics Norway and DNB Markets. He also held several positions in economics, finance, strategy and communication in Statoil (now Equinor), including chief economist in the period 2009-2013. He has been a full-time professor at UiS since 2013.

Professor Mohn also sits on two governmental expert committees: one to evaluate the nation’s Mineral Law and one that will assess climate risk for the Norwegian economy


The board voted unanimously to offer Mohn the rector position.

"This is a historic day, because we have got the first appointed head of the university. I am confident that we have chosen the right candidate to further develop UiS, says current rector and chairman of the board, Marit Boyesen.
