Professor in geosciences. He received his B.S. degree in geophysics from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1995 and his Ph.D. in geosciences from The University of Texas at Austin in 2003. His current research focuses in energy security, transition, reaching climate goals and the role of the subsurface. He is particularly intereted in basin evolution of continental margins, the interplay of tectonics and sedimentation, regional- to reservoir-scale analysis, and the analysis of seismic and well data to understand the subsurface. Other areas of interest include application of geophysical methods for near surface characterization applied to geotechnical and archeological problems. He is the director of the National Centre of Sustainable Subsurface Utilization of the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS2030), Head of the Deparment of Energy Resources and is active in active in several research projects
