Research interests: Main focus is experimental and computational studies of complex fluid flows in industrial processes primarily linked to well construction. Important examples include fluid displacement, well cementing and particle transport in pipe and annulus geometries. We study stable and density-unstable systems with a particular focus on how geometry, rheology and other process conditions affect the flow and its stability. In connection with the above focus area, we also study non-Newtonian and time-dependent fluid rheology in viscometric and non-viscometric geometries, focusing on the interplay between viscoplasticity, viscoelasticity and thixotropy, and with potential applications within biology, food industries, medicine and energy.

Research areas

  • Fluid mechanics of single- and multiphase flows
  • Measurement, modelling and simulation of fluid dynamics
  • Rheology of non-Newtonian and complex fluids
  • Application of computational methods for solving engineering problems
  • Wellbore flow processes
