Bio

I am a full professor of psychology, with a background from University of Sussex, UK. I do research in social psychology and emotion psychology with an emphasis on morality, self-critical emotions and psychological defense, as well as the related topic of stigma.

I would dare to say that the whole point of my research is to find out how we deal with things we find difficult in our lives. It is my hope that by doing so, we can perhaps find better ways to help each other.

Due to the nature of my research, I typically end up using confirmatory designs and analyses. But I sometimes bewilder myself into the exploratory world. So basically, I really like methods (whether this is qualitative or quantitative) and applied statistics. 

The work we do (me and my friends) have been applied not only in psychology but in business, electronics, neuroscience, criminology, philosophy, medicine, politics, climate work, economics, education, agriculture, marketing, peace work and many other fields.

I hope our research can be of help to you or someone you know.

Jeg er professor i psykologi, og utdannet innenfor sosialpsykologi fra University of Sussex.

I Sussex hadde jeg gleden av å bli veiledet av en av utviklerne bak 'sosial identitetsteori' (Rupert Brown - som en gang i sen vikingtid var PhD-studenten til Henri Tajfel). I doktorgraden ble jeg veiledet av en av forgangspersonene innen utvikling av 'selvet' og hvordan selvet forstås i relasjon til verden rundt oss (Vivian L. Vignoles) og av en av de moderne bautaene innen 'selvkritiske emosjoner' (Colin Wayne Leach). Innen statistikk og metode ble jeg lært opp av Andy Field, og fikk tips og triks i ludo av Dave Kenny vedrørende strukturell ligningsmodellering (for de som vil seg selv så vondt at SEM blir verktøyet deres). 

Ettersom psykologi er et enormt felt med mange 'tomme felt på kartet' har denne nysgjerrigheten ledet meg inn i mange spennende samarbeidsprosjekter med flotte folk rundt omkring i verden. Vi driver på med forskning på moralske feil og skam og avvisning (hovedsakelig med Colin Wayne Leach, Roger Giner-Sorolla, June Tangney, Rupert Brown og Stine Torp Løkkeberg), psykologiske forsvarsmekanismer (med June Tangney og Colin Wayne Leach), forsoning og tilgivelse (med Agostino Mazziotta, Friederike Feuchte og Arie Nadler), flyktning og migrasjonsutfordringer (med Mariette Berndsen), kommunikasjonsutfordringer (med Roger Giner-Sorolla og Stine Torp Løkkeberg), identitet (Vivian L. Vignoles, Colin Wayne Leach og Mariette Berndsen) og stigma (med Susanne Täuber, Stuart Flint og David Bourguignon).
