Digital news agendas in Scandinavia

The project investigates how news journalism in the Scandinavian digital media landscape encounters structural changes in the technology, economy and regulation of media.

illustration: Map The hyperlinked network of Scandinavian news sites. Blue notes represent national papers, green nodes represent regional papers and purple nodes represent local papers. The size of the node illustrates the number of hyperlinks received by the site (Sjøvaag et al 2018).

Central questions include how network technologies connect the digital news world, how Facebook and other third party actors impact the digital news agenda, and how this affects newspapers’ business models.

The project is an international collaboration between researchers from the Department of Media and Social Sciences at the University of Stavanger, the IT University Copenhagen, Karlstad University and Vrije University Amsterdam.

The project is funded by the Ander Foundation, Anne-Marie och Gustav Anders stiftelse för mediaforskning.
