Assoc. Prof. Fazleena Badurdeen

Dr. Fazleena Badurdeen is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and an active faculty member in the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing (ISM) at the University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY, USA).

Dr. Badurdeen’s research focuses on design, modeling and analysis of sustainable products and systems (manufacturing systems and supply chains) to achieve closed-loop material flow from pre-manufacturing, manufacturing, use through post-use stages of a product’s life-cycle using the 6R’s of reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, redesign and remanufacture as a platform.

Her research, predominantly that involves the development of coordinated product and systems design optimization models by the application of these approaches, have been recognized through international awards. Dr. Badurdeen’s work has been published in numerous journals and presented at national and international conferences.

Her research has been supported through funding from various agencies including the U.S. Department of Defense (US Air Force, US Army, DLA, etc.) and major U.S. manufacturing companies. She is a member of SME, ASME and IIE where she serves as the President of the Lean Division.
