Centre for Risk Management and Societal Safety

SEROS was established by the University of Stavanger (UiS) and the International Research Institute of Stavanger (IRIS) on January 1st 2009.

The centre is based on the collaboration between a number of research groups with parallel teaching and research interests. Today the centre consists of research groups from one department at the UiS and two departments at IRIS. These are the Department of Safety, Economics and Planning at UiS and the Department for Social Science and Business Development and the Department for Energy at IRIS.

The centres activities have strong links to the interdisciplinary PhD program in Risk Management and Societal Safety at the University of Stavanger, which is run by SEROS staff.

In addition to the centres commitment to research, the dissemination of ideas, theories and methods through tailor-made teaching programmes, as well as a number of related masters, are an important part in the centres activity portfolio.
