University of Stavanger
The University of Stavanger, Norway, has 40 years of experience in petroleum education and research. It was the first academic institution in Norway to offer petroleum engineering studies. Stavanger is the oil and energy capital in Norway and the region enjoys a rich and diverse interplay between the university and society and business.
The Faculty of Science and Technology has about 2000 students and 200 employees. The curriculum focuses especially on engineering disciplines, while research activities are characterised by innovation and collaboration with industry and government.
NORCE, former IRIS, is a recognised research institute focusing on applied research. It is equally owned by the University of Stavanger and the regional foundation Rogalandsforskning.
NORCE Energy, one of three research departments, contributes to efficient and safe energy production. Its core activities are within petroleum research but it also applies its competence within renewable energy and CCS research.
NORCE Energy focuses on research and development of new technologies related to safe and environmentally sound exploration and exploitation of oil and gas, sustainable energy, and storage of carbon dioxide. Additional research areas include smart energy systems, natural gas based power generation, energy systems based on new fuels and geothermal energy.
Institute for Energy Technology (IFE)
Institute for Energy Technology is an international research institute for energy and nuclear technology. The annual turnover is approximately NOK 800 million, and IFE has about 600 employees. IFE’s vision is to be an internationally leading energy research institute.
IFE’s Petroleum Technology develops profitable, safe and environmentally acceptable technologies for petroleum extraction, including the establishment and management of oil and gas resources.
IFE’s tracer technology is used by oil companies throughout the world, and the Institute has established itself as an international centre of expertise for multiphase flow modelling and simulator development as well as corrosion in oil and gas pipelines. Within the framework of the IOR Centre, IFE will deliver unique technology to verify improved oil recovery in the field. It will also contribute to the development of software to understand improved oil recovery processes.
