Reservoir Engineering

The challenge in reservoir engineering is to describe and predict simultaneous flow of one, two, or three fluid phases (oil, gas, and water) through the irregular pore channel network constituting the permeable reservoir rock.

The multiphase fluid flow from injectors towards producers may be influenced by the presence of a gas cap or an aquifer. It is
 important to plan the production strategy and well placements to optimize hydrocarbon recovery and predict future performance.

 Areas of research are:

  • well-test analysis
  • reservoir simulation and modelling
  • pore network modelling
  • capillary pressure and relative permeabilities
  • wettability
