A risk expert is able to support risk knowledge generation for all types of issues and can help treat current and emerging risk problems facing societies today, such as terrorism, complex technological risks and climate change.

As student of the Master of Science programme in Risk Analysis and Governance at the University of Stavanger you will become a member of one of the strongest scientific groups on risk worldwide.

Here, you will be trained as a risk expert by leading professors in risk analysis and governance.

The master programme covers topics like risk science, risk assessment, risk perception, risk communication, risk management, and risk governance and policy.

New perspectives

Today's society increasingly focuses on risk, safety and security issues, and the challenges are many. However, current risk analysis and governance practice suffer from severe weaknesses and there is an urgent need for improvements. New ideas and perspectives on risk analysis and governance are required.

The study programme highlights such ideas and perspectives, and aims at contributing to strengthen the scientific basis for the risk field and science, including relevant safety and security issues.

Private and public jobs

A Risk Analysis and Governance MSc from the University of Stavanger will give you advanced knowledge in the fundamentals of risk analysis and governance; attractive competencies either you are looking for future work as a risk scientist, or a risk practitioner or manager. The programme opens up for positions in both private and public sectors.

The MSc in Risk Analysis and Governance builds on concepts and ideas developed by the Society for Risk Analysis over the last 40 years. ‘Risk Analysis’ is used in a broad sense to include assessment, characterisation, perception, communication, management and policy relating to risk. This is of concern to individuals, public and private sector organizations, and to society at a local, national, and global level.

The programme includes subjects covering all aspects of risk as highlighted above. Key aspects of safety, security and resilience are covered, as well as topics linked to emergency preparedness and crisis management.

A modern teaching platform is adopted, with use of different types of e-learning.
