Students embarking on this course are expected to have completed a foundation course in music (undergraduate or equivalent). Candidates without this formal education may also apply, submitting arrangements and/or compositions for assessment.
To equip candidates with the skills necessary to develop a distinctive, creative musical ability.
o Composition in free style
o Instrumentation for conventional ensembles i.e.. String Quartet, Wind quintet, Brass quintet, possibly in combination with other instruments.
o Advancing students personal preferences (time permitting)
The course lasts for the whole academic year. All students take part in the introductory lectures and decide at a later stage, which interests (arrangement, composition) they wish to pursue. Great importance is attached to candidates' individual work. Teaching takes the form of lectures, workshops and individual tutoring. The course includes work with a Midi-based computer programme for arranging and engraving. Students have access to a 128mb sampler.
This study can form part of a BA degree and is a preparation for a variety of arrangement or composition projects. (30 ECTS credits)
A graded evaluation will be given on the basis of a performance of the candidate's work at a concert.
