Admission to single courses (enkeltemner)

One can apply for single courses at the University of Stavanger without having been admitted to a study programme. Most of the courses are taught in Norwegian, however some courses are taught in English.

Application deadline for the Autumn semester is 1 August.
The online application system opens approximately on 15 June.

Application deadline for the Spring semester is 1 December.
The online application system opens approximately on 15 October.

The application outcome will be sent out only after the application deadline has passed.

How to apply?

Note: Applicants who hold a study right at the University of Stavanger for the upcoming semester, should not apply for single courses. They must apply through the digital student service desk (digital studentekspedisjon).

It is only possible to apply for courses of the upcoming semester. The lists of courses will be updated when the application portal opens. Please find the overview of single courses available by chosing one of the faculties in the menu on the left.

Applicants must apply via the application portal Søknadsweb.

Choose the courses you wish to apply to, and upload documentation showing that you meet the admission requirements. Note that you must meet the English language requirements in accordance with the requirements to the study programmes of which you want to take courses.

Upload the original documents of your education, plus an official translation if the documents are not in English, Norwegian, Danish or Swedish. Read more about country specific documentation requirements here.

All documents must be submitted within the application deadline.

If you have an agreement with a study advisor to take a course which is not listed as an open course, you must add the choice "ANNET" (other) in the application portal and specify the course code and name in the field for remarks.

You will receive ECTS credits accordingly, however in order to be qualified for housing by the Student Welfare Organisation in Stavanger (SiS) you must be either a full-time student, or take at least 30 ECTS per year if you want to extend your housing contract. Registration and payment of semester fee

After being admitted, you will have to accept or decline the offer in the application portal (Søknadsweb) within the given deadline.

After you have received the study right for one semester, you must do the following in the study portal Studentweb:

  • register for the lecture and examination
  • register for the semester
  • pay the semester fee

Note: If you already have used all three attempts to pass a course, you will not be able to register for the examination.

Deadline to register and pay the semester fee for courses in the autumn semester is 1 September.

Deadline to register and pay the semester fee for courses in the spring semester is 1 February.
