As part of the Pedagogy Unit (Uniped), the focus of this research group is to work with educators on the critical assessment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education to explore AI’s implications and identify appropriate applications.
The reseach group on AI, ethics and law focuses on legal and ethical implications of development, deployment and use of AI systems.
Heating and cooling in buildings and industry are responsible for half of energy consumption in Europe. They have also put a severe pressure on the Norwegian electricity grid. There is a lot of waste heat released from data centres and other industrial processes in Norway, which is poorly mapped and utilized.
Spring of 2019, a wind turbine was lifted into place and installed on the Ullandhaug campus. Solar cells have already been installed. The turbine and solar cells are part of a laboratory that will produce energy from solar and wind. Students, researchers and the business community can study the energy mix produced at the lab.
The Applied AI and Digitalization in Drilling Group at IEP, Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Stavanger, bridges the gap between industrial domain expertise and latest advances in Artificial Intelligence.
Due to an increase in the amount of data available through technological advancements, AI and machine learning approaches can be employed to convert the data into contextual information, leading to a step change in the field of energy and petroleum engineering.
Focusing on data, we will obtain value and impact by computing while maintaining privacy and trustworthiness.
Novel information retrieval and web mining solutions for next generation search engines and intelligent systems, using cutting edge machine learning and AI.
We investigate the function of biological systems, from intracellular molecular networks to complex microbial communities, and use mathematical models and experimental methods to explain and predict behavior.
Research activities vary from fundamental to applied research, with machine learning, deep learning and robot technology as main focus or tool.
