Graduate 2026 - Data Scientist

About the position
This position is part of the Subsurface Data Science team, where we collaborate across disciplines to leverage data science and artificial intelligence in analyzing, processing, and enhancing subsurface data such as seismic surveys, well logs, and reservoir models. Embedded within the broader subsurface community, the team works closely with experts in geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and reservoir engineering on both internal and external projects.
We are a capable and well-established group of problem solvers, and we are eager to welcome a new graduate data scientist to our team. In this role, you will be encouraged to continually learn and expand your expertise, not only in data science but also within the subsurface domain. Additionally, you will become a part of Aker BP's broader data science community, where opportunities for rotation, growth, and increasing responsibilities await.
At Aker BP, we are an army of problem solvers, the pace is dynamic, and a mindset for change is integral to our success. Team structures, daily tasks, and priorities often evolve, as does the skillset required to meet emerging challenges. While we are a large company, we maintain the flexibility and agility of a smaller organization, which means you will quickly gain autonomy, influence, and ownership over your projects. Our workplace thrives on mutual trust, and collaboration is deeply ingrained in our culture, where colleagues readily offer and seek assistance to achieve our shared goals.
Typical work tasks can include:
- Write code using statistical methods and machine learning to analyze subsurface data like seismic surveys, well logs, and reservoir simulations.
- Work with geoscientists to find new and valuable ways to exploid large datasets from the Norwegian Continental Shelf for better exploration and production decisions.
- Turn prototypes into functional tools by integrating cloud computing, databases, web applications, and MLOps practices.
- Explore and analyze datasets to understand their structure, limitations, and applications in subsurface projects.
- Present findings and outcomes to internal and external audiences via conferences, workshops, or professional forums.
Requirements to the applicant
Qualifications:
- Have recently graduated or due to graduate in 2026 with an MSc or PhD within data science, computer science, mathematics, physics, cybernetics, geology, geophysics, petroleum engineering or similar.
- Experience in programming, scientific computing or software-oriented code development is a benefit but not a requirement.
- You have maximum two years of relevant professional experience
- English or Norwegian language working proficiency
