Bio

Markus Nilsen is a research fellow in archaeology at the Museum of Archaeology, University of Stavanger. He received his master’s thesis from the University of Oslo in 2020. His main academic interest is medieval warfare, and his master’s thesis investigated late medieval battles in Europe. Markus is the Ph.D. candidate for the project Viking beacons – Militarism in northern Europe (BCON) studying fire beacons, and his project is focused on the effectiveness of the warning system. BCON is funded by the Research Council of Norway (Project no. 324454).
