Elin Svensen defended her Ph.D. in sociology, social work, culture, and society at the Faculty of Social Sciences on December 8.
The eXploring Leadership (eXL) research group at the University of Stavanger is a forum that facilitates exciting diversity in leadership research and development. eXL is an inclusive meeting place where you can meet across academic environments and institutional boundaries.

A unique type of Viking Age sword with spectacular ornamentation has been found in Stavanger. The closest parallel is a sword from the island Eigg in Scotland found in a grave from the 800s.
The industry of aquaculture is a fast-growing industry. An international project from UiS will help solve sustainability issues in this industry by using economic theory.
The project will investigate beacons or warning fires that were lit during attacks on the country in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. We will uncover the deeper social organisations at work when a society is facing recurrent threats and explore how war and fear-driven reactions affects and institutionalises societies.

The University of Stavanger Business School recently submitted two applications to the Research Council of Norway to become Norwegian Centres of Excellence (SFF). The Norwegian Centres of Excellence scheme is the RCN`s most prestigious call. It allows scientific areas to organize themselves in centers to achieve ambitious scientific goals through cooperation and long-term funding.

On Thursday, October 29th, the University of Stavanger arranged the annual celebration and conferral of doctoral degrees. UiS Business School doctors Nina Hjertvikrem, May Linn Sikveland, Olaug Øygarden, and Ana Filipa Faria Lopes were reverently celebrated.
